i've recently lost two of my big snails, one felicia and one retic, both were very sudden but when i counted the swirls ,of which i was lead to believe indicated the age, year for each swirl, they both had six,i don't know the ages of any of my big babes as they were rescues and wondered if it was just there time, but i was just sitting here thinking is there any truth in the swirl thing and wondered what others on here thought

I don't think you can tell age of swirls because depending of species example a.fulica is full grown about in age of 1 to 2years and fulicas have about 7swirls and they can't be 7years old if they reach to full size in young age.
Some species can be full size even when they are 6months or in less time swirls don't tell how old they are. Trees age can be count from circles, but not snails..

thanks crossless ,i did wonder if there was any truth in it,thats why i started the tread, have lost another retic this morning again no reason for it,all my others are fine it's just my big guys, but then these were my first snails only have one felicia large guy left so will be worry now but these ones were rescues and we didn't know anything about them because they have all died suddenly i think it could be age related,as they haven't been showing any signs of problems, and all were sudden.

Well I don't think so either. I have a 8month old Fuli, and he has 6 swirls. But he's nowhere near fully grown, the whirls are just small. But it's an interesting theory
