I have always wondered if Rodatzi's and Jades' can make an albino bodied yellow shelled GAL. It is one of those questions i always wanted to ask but haven't found the time to research etc... does anyone know if it is possible. sorry if there is already another thread about it i'm just really curious.. thankyou

There's someone on this board who's been crossing them for several generations and ended with a couple of complete albinos and zillions of normal fulicas and so on. So it seems possible, but unlikely.

thats cool. but zillions of fulica thats a shame. i reckon they are hard to rehome actually. at this farm their gals keep having tons of babies, and no matter how cheap, no one buys them! i suppose its your audience that counts, right people, then you may be able to rehome them. i hope mine don't breed for a long time and its good that they are under age (lol). if i ever got full albinos i would probably jump for joy and cry. all the time and would scream if any one wanted to buy them Lmao. thats cool tho

Fulicas are always hard to rehome - so many people keep them, see eggs and think it would be great to have some baby snails, then find themselves with literally hundreds of young snails that almost nobody wants. With fulicas, if you're not trying a particular breeding experiment, the responsible thing to do is only hatch as many eggs as you personally would be willing to keep. If you can rehome them, great, but you can't count on it.

thats good to know. the only thing my mam or dad will have to do is freeze the eggs for me, i know they are not formed, but i still feel evil :] my friend and i are swapping 1 baby each when our snails have eggs, because then they are not in-bred, even tho that wouldn't matter anyways, its just more real, if you know what i mean. Also i have one question : will Jades breed with normal Fulica? or is there a small chance they would be jades again? ty

If it's any consolation, I'd count it far more evil to bring hundreds of unwanted snailets into the world when you could've avoided it.
Jades and normal fulicas do interbreed because they're two forms of the same species. As I understand it, what results will partly depend on if the normal fulica has any jade in its ancestry, but I think you could reasonably expect to get mostly normal fulicas with perhaps some lighter in body but not white. Maybe a jade or two, maybe not.

i get what you mean when you say it is evil to bring unwanted snails into the world, only for them to probably become distressed in conditions. I think your right about the fulica/ jade thing, i suppose the best thing possible, is to keep as many eggs (as you said before) as i can keep, i will probably only hatch (when the time evetually comes) about 6 or 7 and then again, not all of them will actually hatch. so i think it is a risk, that gambles. i think in aroud 4 months (ish) when they start to breed (because i don't know how old they are exactly) i will freeze the eggs until i am ready to keep some more snails! Great help.

It has been done certainly, I have done it. I started with the mating of a young virgin Rodatzi and an adult but virgin Jade, which isn't always successful due to the difference in size of Jades and Rodatzi, but I just got lucky (no skill). Mine were of a fairly similar size at the time. The first generation were, as expected, normal fulica coloured with grey bodies and stripey shells as the genes for these two traits are usually dominent (though snail genetics are not quite as simple as that). The second generation produced one in 16 (approx) fully albinos, some of which are the largest of my batch, though someopne else in anopther country had the opposite experience, all their albinos were runts. I was lucky as I run a forum and several of us got together with this, so some folks took some of the first generation fulica. Also I hatched a certain amount, enough for me to cope with, plus I found homes for the babies BEFORE I hatched them out, with the recipients knowing that there's no gaurentee as to what colours they would get. You may find the following link useful. supersnails.proboards76.com/index.cgi?board=species&action=display&thread=2488Hope that helps.

Glad it's useful. Iredalei? I'm absolutely rubbish at keeping them to be honest, they die off no matter what I try to do, but there's plenty of people who keep and breed them successfully, so I hope you get the information you need very soon. I'd like to know how you get on, good luck xx

my iredalei's are in the same tank as my Jade's and fulicas. But i'm not sure what one of the was up too... i have 3 skulls in my tank, one sheep and two rabbits (even though i keep a pet rabbit ). One of them seemed to get in a higgle piggle. I only put the sheep skull in as they are small enough to go into its eyes (just) and this one 'Zulu' seemed to think it could fit into the eye s- ocket of the rabbit skull no way, its just to big that was funny to watch, i'll take some photos soon !
