I was in my garden yesterday evening after we had a shower of rain and all of the slugs and snails were out. I noticed that a couple of snails had big brown slugs on them. Do slugs rasp snails? It looked as though they were and so I flicked the slugs off. I love the snails but not fond of slugs. Silly question I know... but I'm full of them. ;D

It is not silly. I have witnessed this a few times. Some species of slug do rasp snails. Maybe it is their way of obtaining some extra nutrients? mickysnail

Hi there, many slugs are at least omnivores, some, especially the semi-slug species, even are carnivores. There is one picture, that I took a year ago in Hessia in Germany: There is a juvenile Lusitanian slug ( Arion lusitanicus) feeding on a lapidary snail ( Helicigona lapicida). A larger picture you could see in my gallery, which, alas, is only in German. There is another picture, which I took a week ago: A great grey slug (aka. leopard or tiger slug, Limax maximus) is crawling after an Arion slug (another Lusitanian Arion lusitanicus?), and as Limax maximus is an omnivore with a tendency to cannibalism and carnivory, I even thought about, whether it was about to eat the Lusitanian? This picture you can also see at the gallery. There is also a homepage of mine concerning slugs: > Slugs - Life (Almost) Without a Shell. Kind regards Robert
