I was just reading red's thread on his/her's snail that had a mantle collapse. It's a sad post. I was just wondering what are the chances of mantle collapse?

It's really rare to snails get it. Some snails get it so that they hit hard to hard surface and mantle get damage from the hit and mantle little come off from shell.
Sometimes snails just get it for no reason and you can't really know then what is causing it. I think there's nothing to worry about and it's really hard to predict when snail get sick.

I wouldn't say it's rare. There's an aweful lot of posts about.
Also, you want to be careful if you have a really small snail that a large one doesn't hang from him and pull him out of his shell. I believe nematodes can also expell snails from their shells to. Nematodes are generally from wild caught snails so you'll want to quarantine any before you add them to captive bred ones, if you got some snails from brixton or something.
