There has been discussion on this before, and i think the general concesus was not really recommended unless need for some reason, but depending on what is used, you would have to be careful that it wasn't toxic incase another snail started rasping at that area of shell. I had a fulica that had clear polish on top of a plaster of paris repair job on a damaged shell, and it did him no harm. But it was done out of necessity to keep the repair from getting wet.
