I am pretty certain that our ventricosa are not ventricosa or purpurea.
Both snails have extremely reticulated and coarse sculpture, completely unmistakable. Like Anjie noticed when she got hers (whichever it is) it was obvious straight away it wasn't a margie. I've been through all the pictures and I can't find one without that sculpture. Normal ventricosa have a less coarse shell than var. speculatum but they still have it.
And both my ventricosa don't show any of it at all. I have one about 5 cm and the other is about 9 cm so it isn't like it hasn't developed yet.
So what are they. Well, out of the remaining purple-mouthed snails that leaves rhodostoma and degneri, both of which could be what they are. I know people have degneri with red columellas but the book actually describes it most commonly as pomegranate purple which I think describes the columella of our "ventricosa" well.
Arch. marginata var. suturalis fits the bill also, especially because they can be so variable and so do cross-breeds.
If anyone has some "ventricosa" , some margie babies and a good magnifying glass, will you look for the cross-weave pattern on your margies, and then compare with the "ventricosa". It will help rule out that they are some kind of margie or margie crossbreed (I think).

I take you are refering to the Ventricosa we all got from Lucy??
Where's this 'cross-weave' we are looking for? And if we find it does it mean they could be margies? I'm getting confused (doesn't take much rofl)

This applies to my "purpurea" too doesnt it, since it hasnt got a textured shell. So it could be rhodostoma, degneri or suturalis? I havent any margie babies to compare with...I dont think I have a magnifying glass either

oh thats a shame.
personally i dont think theyre degneri cus degneri have pale brown shells and paler flesh than margies and lucy's snails.
what does rhodostoma look like?
how can it be suturalis if it doesnt have a red apex/columella?
wow 5cm! mine are still tiny. awww theyre so cute.

Well I looked for that pattern on both the Margies:ventricosa and suturalis and both have a pattern on the first few whorls but the bodywhorl is smooth with just a very faint pattern.... Compared with my Margie young I don't think the "ventricosa" is a suturalis
