I bought 2 of this persons "dimidiata" earlier this week...They look darker in the photo than what they actually are, the parents are from Virginia Cheeseman, like my adult dimidiata. My other baby dimidiata are almost identical to them.

I brought some a few weeks ago, they are nice snails but one of them had quite a ragged edge to its sell lip at the front. It might be normal and i havent seen it chewing bu ti have got them quarantined in case there are mites, just thought i would let you know.

Mine are ok, the shell of one of them is worn at the front, but the shell will re-grow

Most snails get broken shell bits at one point or another, just the usual rough and tumble so I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about. But good job for quarantining them.
Oh, and gorgeousgastropod, dimis are lovely. Get them!! Lol Have you got and easier name?! Lol

Yeah i think it was nothing now it just struck me as odd because it was really uneven but not like really bad, oh i dont know but better safe than sorry. Any way have kep an eye on them and the one affected has started to regrow and heal so i presume it must be fine. If they had mites they would keep rasping at it wouldnt they?
Did you go for it and buy a couple Rach?

I think they do keep rasping if it is mites yes. I've not had them so don't know exactly but that seems to be the "normal" for snails with mites. And yes it is better safe than sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought you were overworrying or anything lol. I'm the queen of that Glad it's regrowing Yeah Rach did you get them!? And thankyou for the easier name LOL

I dunno if it's connected, but my two Virginia Cheeseman dimis are both not doing well at all. Ian's mentionned the shell damage, mine both have that, and aren't growing any more. It isn't just mine either, my sister has one out of the same batch, and her's is poorly too.
Now I'm not saying it's VC's problem, this could just be a one off, just wanted to add to Ian's post. Although it's not mites with ours, as our other snails are all very healthy and have great shells.

I got two, i think they are from the same batch from what the seller told me, one of them has this rough shell lip and is generally not doing as well as it sibling which has twice the size. However they are both really active, much more than my fulica and they eat alot and i have had to give them new cuttlefish three times and they have been here less than a month. The smaller one is nearly healed already and im expecting her to have a sudden growth spurt soon, otherwise she'll be a runt! Ive read that nobody had dimidiata and then suddenly over summer they became available and are now quite common. Im a bit worried that these dimiadiata thata rent doing too well may be the effects of inbreeding. I was planning to breed mine even thought they are related and then finding a non-related snail to outbreed the next generation but i think it might be a bad idea now. Does anyone have dimidiata that arent from Virginia Cheeseman or related to her stock?

Ive read that nobody had dimidiata and then suddenly over summer they became available Where did you read that? I got my "dimidiata" from Virginia Cheeseman over a year ago, I was told by her not so long ago that the dimidiata she has offered for sale this year, look different to the ones she had last year
