Hi @ll, i need an Identification with 3 of my Snails. They Perens are green/brown Shells, and they are not so big as margies ( ca. 10cm). I dont have more Infos ......... Shell at 5cm columella Lipp The Inside off the Shell looks like at the Columella and the Lipp. Any Idea? Sorry, my bad English Kind regards Liv

The pink columella means it could be one of the following:
ventricosa, rhodostoma, degneri or purpurea
Judging by the shape of the shell I would say ventricosa or degneri.
The shell looks smooth which makes me lean toward degneri even more, although the bright pink columella is more typical of ventricosa.
We'll have to see how he grows, it is very hard to determine when they are young and not very easy when they're older!
Have you any idea where in Africa the parents originated, that would help us immensely?

He looks very much like a few snails I have which also may be ventricosa. I'm hoping to determine it more accurately but to do that I need a confirmed ventricosa shell and a confirmed degneri one to compare.
Eventually perhaps, we may know what to look for and make a proper identification.

the apex would be pink too if it were suturalis and i don't think the inner lip is pink on suturalis either

the apex would be pink too if it were suturalis and i don't think the inner lip is pink on suturalis either Suturalis don't always have a pink apex so they could be. My wild caught suturalis have a bright pink columella just like that. The only way to remove tha possibility is to inspect the nepionic whorls for lack of cancellate texture. Like Sarah says, it is the inside of the lip that makes me think it isn't a margie. I'd also expect suturalis to be more slender. A lot of the larger, more ventricose margies with a red columella could well be crossbreeds because they don't fit the suturalis profile that well at all. It is hard to say, we stress the defining character as the columella colour, but size, profile and egg-size no doubt play a factor. They really do look like my unknowns. I'm waiting for them to reach full size so I can inspect them properly. The largest of the two is about 9-10cm at the moment so nearly there. I really want to say ventricosa for them all but the texture is so smooth which seems odd.
