Cepaea Competition , I just wanted to make it more clear that you can win the competition even if your cepaeas came from somewhere other than where you live. You just need to put the Origin of where you got them. You can still post competition pictures of your pet cepaeas or wild garden cepaeas even if you have posted pictures on this thread of your cepaeas before the competition started. If through out the competition you have posted a photo of a pet cepaea or a wild garden cepaea and find later you managed to get another picture that you like better or decided to post a different cepaea just put Example on the post you don't want entered and ENTRY on the two you do want entered. As long as you keep it to two separate entries. That way everyone gets to see all of the different cepaeas there are. Another great Idea by pennyfarthing, thanks penny. The competition goes for two months so you will have time to do this. The pictures won't be judged until the contest ends. So who will be the bravest one to post the first entrant picture? Looking forward to see every ones pet cepaea entries. And remember put on your picture post: Species: nemoralis or hortensis Color Morph; Yellow, albino, Rose with albino tip, etc Amount of bands : 1 2 3 etc. or unbanded Origin: Wherever your cepaea came from even if it isn't were you live. To Qualify The competition is a great opportunity for all of use to be able to see and know of all of the different cepaeas that are out are out there, even if your not really interested in the competition part it would be a great way to share photos of your cepaeas.

Here's my contest entry I only have one photo of my prettiest and there's another snail in the photo, but I've checked that it's all right to enter it The snail I am entering is the yellow one on the bottom, giving the snailie-back ride! Courtesy of me Cepaea hortensis. Yellow morph. Five bands. Origin Nottingham, England. I love the way his shell gets brighter yellow towards the middle!

Is that definately a Capaea Pennyfarthing? I've never seen one like that before! Very unusual indeed. Excellent picture too.

I'm as sure as I can be. It is the same size and shape as the cepeas that were with it. I found a lot like them with the same colour and markings the other day, but this was the only one with those markings that I could see today. They aren't fully grown, so I'd guess that the ones I found are all from the same clutch of eggs.
If you'd like to compare them with the other cepeas I found to make sure, I did get some group pictures; one of which I was going to submit until I re-read the rules, as it happens.

Hi, No no - I wasn't being argumentative, I was just surprised to see that there is still kinds of colour morphs that I have yet to come across! There are a LOT of cepaea in my area but there are still a few kinds that I never see. I have yet to spot a single unbanded rose or brown one in my area and it seems single band ones are in the minority too, though I found a batch of c. Nems that were yellow with one black band a few days ago.
Looks like he has a had a rough life though doesn't he! I never realised just how beautiful Cepaea's could be until I started growing tank bred ones that haven't had to put their shells through the trials of life in the wild!

That's OK. I didn't think you were being argumentative; I just wasn't sure whether it was a completely unknown morph. To tell the truth, I actually got those pictures to ask if anyone had seen that sort before, but when the competition came up I thought I should enter. The colouring is similar to a different breed of snail that I've found in small quantities in my garden, but that other breed has a much thinner shell - it is both transparent and not as broad. The type has had pictures posted here on the forum, but its name escapes me. You're right about him looking as if he'd been in the wars. Poor little thing isn't even fully grown yet, either - I wish I could have taken him in.

Hi Penny , It is unusual, it looks kind of like a brown cepaea with albino shell tip. It is lovely. It's skin coloring is very lovely. Definitly one banded and nemoralis. It is a great shot. You can make two entrants so if you find anymore I hope you will post another. Thank You for entering Vallery

Hi Everyone , Don't forget you can enter two photos of two different snails. pet cepaeas or wild garden cepaeas. And anyone that has entered photos before the contest can post photos of Two of your cepaeas as well. Just don't forget to qualify you need to add Species Color Morph Amount of bands or unbanded Origin (It doesn't have to come from where you live you just need to post where it did come from. If you don't want to compete in the competition or have more then two cepaeas you would like to show just put EXAMPLE on those posts. Put Entry on the ones you want in the competition. Which will give us all the opportunity to see all of the different types of beautiful and interesting cepaeas. Another great Idea by pennyfarthing. thanks Penny. vallery

Competition snails here: Cepaea nemoralis Yellow morph One band Picked up in Amsterdam, Netherlands And number two: Cepaea nemoralis Rose morph No bands Location Amsterdam, Netherlands ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey yay I have four nemoralises now. I guess I shall enter the comp as well? I will edit this post when I know the names of the morphs etc. Just want to show off my snails now! and I'm posting from my phone browser so not nice for fancy posting. Anyway to the snails: Aspersa baby, a wild child and a new catch, didn't eat the apple I gave him but did fancy the apple I gave the cepaea and tried to snatch it. The cepaea apparently gave the babe a little nip!

Hi TSrebel, You have the color Morph right there really is no name for it other then purple or mauve, I have never seen one this color pretty cool.
Hi Aimee, Your cepaea definitely has bands they are simply fused together sometimes if you check right at the lip of the shell where the head comes out there are little tips were the bands start so you would be able to count them. The color morph of your snail would be white as the bands don't count as the color morph. He is a beauty,
Hi Pink, Your snails are great. Which two do you plan to enter? #1 looks like a six banded Yellow Morph cepaea nemoralis, his shell is in excellent condition. #2 Looks like a 5 banded (hard to tell) Yellow morph cepaea nemoralis. #3 looks like a rose morph cepaea nemoralis unbanded. #4 and #5 look like the same snail, a yellow morph cepaea nemoralis. Banded: Single two toned band shell also in excellent condition. Once you pick the two you would like to enter put Entry at the top so the judges don't get confused.
Thanks everyone for entering 08 days left to enter.
