I lightly colour the apex and a few of the whorls on two of my neohelix albolabris to identify them. I've done this practice for months and now I'm wondering if these so called "non-toxic" pencil crayons are actually safe to use on snail shells?

I can't imagine them doing much harm, but i can't be certain. I think some people have used nail varnish surprisingly with no obvious negative effect which you could maybe try?

Nail varnish, especially formaldehyde free, might be the best way to mark them as it is difficult for them to rasp it off.

Nail varnish?! If people see a tough looking guy walk into the store and pick-up nail varnish they're going to ....................... Assume certain things so I think I'll stick with the non-toxic pencil crayons. Thanks for the responding though, muddydragon and pinkunicorn!

You could buy it off of ebay... Right! How could I have forgotten about online shopping? I must have been up too late! Anyways, all I wanted to know is if they were safe or not, and what people think about it so, for now I'll continue the same practice. Thanks for the alternate solution.
