Hi! My name is Andreia and I rescued a small snail that was mixed in somes dried herbs my mom sent me. I tried to build him an habitat and feed him the right things. Well I named him Speedy
I'm looking for answers why Speedy loves to nibble away on my book and not on carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, a small cuttle bone, spinach and so on.
thank you so much so glad I found these boards!
PS: I posted.also on the newbie section with photos hope that is OK

Hello, I have 5 GALS, 3 normal GALS called Star,Pepper and Pasty and 2 Albinos called Daisy and Jade. They eat fruit and veg normally but at the moment their hibernating as I'm in the UK so it may be to cold for them but they do have a heat mat so I think their happy enough. Welcome to the forum

Don't let him eat paper if you can help it, they seem to sort of reconise it as plant matter but it does them no good. Keep offering him varied vegetables and he'll come around. If he's sealed/hidden inside his shell alot, he may be too dry or the temperature might not suit him. You can always post pictures of him and his habitat if you need more specific advice about looking after him

Hi thank you well Speedy has been now for 3 days inside his shell maybe hibernating too? Have you put the snail in a proper tank with a lid yet? If not, you really need to get a proper tank or box with a lid to keep the humidity up. Snails will aestivate and seal themselves inside their shell if it's too dry for them.

I made a thread about Faunarium in particular when I was deciding what to upgrade to and most people said that glass terrariums and transparent storage bins are the best. This is because of the fact that they hold humidity better and clean better (Mind you glass can be heavy though!). If you're the type that's overly concerned about humidity (I'm personally not) just put a wet towel on top to cover the holes or mist them a couple times a day. For fruit flies, you can use chiffon cloth. Aside from Faunarium's thousands of holes, I don't see much wrong with it. At least your snails will have excellent air circulation.

I have something similar to that, just a bit taller I think, and the Petco brand. It's worked perfectly for my three Aspersas. I do prefer keeping a folded hand towel (not wet) over the lid to keep humidity up a bit, but it's probably not necessary for my aspersas (you could also use cardboard in place of the towel). The tank has not been scratched at all, but I know from experience keeping fish in similar aquariums that it would scratch easily if I were to scrape decorations or bowls against it, so do be careful about that, and make sure to clean only with a soft cloth. Basically, I think it's a wonderful home for snailies! Congrats!

Wow that's a good tank, I was deliberating whether to get one for my 7 A,F,s but I think it might be to small for mine plus I may be getting 2 more as a friend has 2 she do,snt want anymore. But for your 3 snails it looks just the ticket :-)

Very nice andreiamlm , Speedy is a lucky little fellow such a nice home. How does Speedy like it? If you put some English or Baltic or Devils Ivy in Speedy's home he won't eat it and he will have some nice leaves to sleep under and plants to crawl on. Have you tried a little soaked fish flakes on a piece of cucumber? Mine love that. All of my species. vallery:)
