Large snails tend to be slower than small ones in my experience.

If I were to see a snail moving faster than me, I'd have to rent a horse and run for my dear life in order to avoid by being suffocated by speedy snail slime!

This reminds me of that story about giant snails on an island and how the person who went looking for them assumed he could escape because all snails are slow... only these were humongous and ended up chasing him all over. Does anyone know the title of the story I'm thinking of? I haven't read it in ages!

It was the "The Quest for Blank Clavervingi" by Patricia Highsmith. At one point my blood ran hot and cold as I was reading it. It's an awesome story!

Yep. Just imagining myself in the place of the scientist being chased by the man-eating snails gave me chills!

Okay, I'm now sitting here laughing after reading the following page about that story and the author. Apparently the author was extremely into snails, carrying them in her purse, or "carefully positioned under each breast" for international travel. Say what??? Now *that's* an extreme snail addiction! I wonder if the snails enjoyed it? Lol... billchance.org/2012/06/02/the-quest-for-the-blank-claveringi/

FYI, for anyone interested, I found a book by Patricia Highsmith on Amazon called "Eleven," which includes the above story plus one more about snails, along with other short stories. It has a picture of a snail on the front, and also comes in a Kindle edition. Guess what's downloading to my tablet now? Lol.

Haha, I won't give any spoilers, but out of the two snail stories in the book I mentioned, the first, titled "The Snail Watcher," made me just a tad nervous, with my snails getting ready to lay eggs and all... If you've read it you'll know what I mean.
