I can see all the picture and yes they are very interesting. If its at all possible your idea of showing the 3 side by side would be great to give a true size comparison.

Thanks everyone, yes Lemon is the prettiest little hermaphrodite princess, with her eye just making her all the more unique. <3<3 I don't know what happened to it, it was that way already when I found her, and she was just a young, shy snailie at the time. She's grown up to be quite a character! Mangoandlemon, it'd be cool to get to see your Lemon too! I will try to get the 3 into a photo at the same time, though they've been super active since yesterday morning, I don't know how to get them to stay in place! Maybe a nice rotting piece of sweet potato, hmmmmm.... I'll see what I can do! Maybe some of my other Cepaea could agree to appear too, you never know, snails have a way of deciding they just won't join in some silly human activities.

if they're from the same location i wouldn't be suprised if they were all the same species... with the other lip colour gene. it's really interesting isn't it? p.s. i love lemon's wonky eye colours!

Thanks Muddydragon, awesome! I don't really want any from here moved, as the pics are relevant to this thread's subject as well. I think I'll post about the soap opera here, and possible shell lip observations there. Also, I'm increasingly sure that my snails read either my mind or this forum, or, or um....maybe they have connections to yours and Zorst's Secret Snail Service or something. Steve has gone to hide and sleep, but Lemon and Frank are hanging out together right next to each other. I took some pics of course, lol. I must go to town now though, but I'll be posting them later.

It IS very interesting! My Cepaea are from two places, and in both they're collected within an area just a few meters wide. I still remember who's from where so I do think I'll be photographing all of them for shell comparison. I wonder if any snail experts in Finland know about the gene variations, I really have no clue! Ahhh yellow little snails are keeping me from running my errands! NOW I'll go!

She was really small and I look for every day but...

Thanks Bronwen Yes, i's a funny story to look back on and truly taught me that snails are more complicated socially than what they get credit for. And now I still have the shell lip colour mystery to solve too, I just have to find the time because it requires lots of planned photographs (that the snails agree to!), editing & uploading them, etc.

Look, it's a happy family, all sleeping in the safety of each other and their shells. That's Lemon behind Steve. Another one: Meanwhile, Frank has gone to sleep shell against shell with my single sleepiest snail in the tank. I guess he got tired of interesting snails. So the drama continues. Ahhh man.

LOL update: the sleepiest snail in the entire tank woke up for the first time in many, many weeks, slimed off, and Frank has a very, very grumpy look on his little face. Also tiny baby Cepaea are swarming around him too. I'm spreading tiny bits of food around and sticking it on walls etc so the babies can find it, but I'm laughing, this is once again better than TV.

They are!! And I just don't get how they can move so fast! I think there could be two clutches that have hatched, though Frank is the only one whose hole-digging I actually saw. Frank wound up carrying a few of the babies around on his shell, while Sleepy Snail went to eat. I'd thought nothing could disturb Sleepy's sleep, as he never woke up from misting, for example! Lol. I must watch if Frank meets Lemon, who also appears to have woken up now, to shine her shell of course, haha - I'm very curious as to how they react to each other now.
