I have three wonderful Cuban Brown Snails that I love to pieces. Their names are Clint, Eastwood, and Bennett Jr. and I found them in a garden in Florida. In the eight years I've lived in Georgia, I've only seen one snail, and that was years ago when I was only a youth. Clint and Eastwood are two very social snails, and they are a package deal. Wherever Clint is, Eastwood is right behind him (or on top of him ) and vice versa. Bennett is getting a little more social now, he doesn't hide in that shell of his all the time any more, but he doesn't have a friend. Clint and Eastwood don't really seem to care much about him. I want to find another land snail so Ben can have somebody to relate to, but as I mentioned before, they are extremely rare here in Georgia. I've heard people (people who don't know how awesome snails can be ) use beer to attract snails. I don't know if beer actually kills the snails, or if the snails die because they drown in the beer. I want to attract another snail by putting some beer outside, but I obviously don't know if it kills them. Please respond! I know this probably is a silly question, but it's for the sake of my sweet Benny boy!

It is the yeast in the beer that attracts snails. Beer traps work by attracting snails and slugs and drowning them when they get stuck inside. I believe that the beer itself is not toxic to snails, but the snails may overeat and suffer digestion problems.

It's best to offer beer that's well diluted with water. They'll still smell it, and it'll be less harmful.

The beer traps that kill snails mostly rely on drowning them, so if you were to build a trap with a screen on the bottom and beer below it, they would crawl in, but would not drown. Or you could try soaking some food in beer, possibly oats, and putting those into a trap.

Beer isn't toxic per se, but as the others guys said above, you need to be careful and make they don't drown it.
