Well, it's the second day of a brand new year! I don't know what this year bring will snailwise, but I hope that it will be an interesting, joyful, successful year . This looks a little bland IMO, but at least it's better than looking at pure text.

@ HelixPomatia, leila and wolf.
Thanks, I'm glad you guys like it. As for the question about them being left handed or not, I'm not sure how snail shells are classified in that regard.

Hi cashell, the coiling direction in snails can be "left-handed" (= sinistral) or "right-handed" (= dextral). Look at the shell with the tip (= apex) on top and the opening (= aperture) being at the bottom pointing on you (compare with pictures below). The axis of the shell must be vertical. If the aperture is left from the axis (columella), then the shell is sinistral, if the aperture is right from the columella, then the shell is dextral. Most snail species are dextral, but very seldom these dextral species show sinistral specimens (called "snail kings"). The inheritance mechanism of this mutation is a little bit tricky and is called "matroclinous". In your picture all specimens are sinistral . Amphidromus perversus from Bali/Indonesia: on the left side a dextral specimen, on the right side a sinistral specimen (same species!).

I had my first snail dream of the year. Went down to the everglades to collect Orthalicus...drove all the way there, got to the hotel, and was getting ready to go to the snail sites, then bam I wake up

wolfThanks for the awesome, detailed explanation. LiguusOhhhhhh, I certainly know the feeling! I had a dream in 2015 where I was collecting monadenia fidelis, only to find out that I was only dreaming in the end.
