A warm bath in distilled water usually works for me... Some snail species are also more nocturnal than others. Sometimes I don 't see one of my snails move or come to the surface for a few days, but they're always fine, so maybe just give him some time...

I have four Zachrysia Provisoria snails, and three barely ever came out because they're so lazy, but they move around at night. Topaz, one of the cuban brown snails, is always happy to be handled though. Just give him time.

If you're using the submersion method, you don't leave them in there long enough to drown. 5-15 seconds should be good enough. You can alternatively spray the shell opening if submersion isn't your thing
