I've seen conflicting views on this one all over the internet, so I'd love to hear some first-hand accounts before my (very randy) cepaea start laying eggs so I can come up with an action plan. Please specify what species you're talking about! Questions 1. Do you leave the eggs in the parent tank or do you move them to a separate tank? If leaving them in the tank, do you leave them exactly where they've hatched or do you move them if they're in an awkward place? 2. Once the babies have hatched, do you move them to a separate tank from the unhatched eggs, or do you leave the babies and unhatched eggs together? In your experience, do the babies cannibalise viable eggs, or do they only seem to cannibalise undeveloped or infertile eggs? 3. If leaving the babies in with the parents, do you experience any problems such as babies rasping off the adults, or adults accidentally hurting the babies? Is there anything you change about their general care while there are small babies in the tank (i.e. not having a water dish, leaving food in multiple places instead of one, etc.?) 4. Any other observations on leaving babies with parents or putting them elsewhere? Thanks!

I gently scoop out any eggs I see with some surrounding substrate, using a plastic spoon or something similar. I then set them in a smaller, separate container where it is easier to keep track of their progress, and the babies once they hatch.

(for the eggs and new babies)

I leave them in the adult tank and say "good luck", unless its a species I have very few of, in which case I move the eggs and surrounding substrate into a small tupperware container.

1. I always move my eggs to a separate tank to prevent any potential snail drama/issues from happening.
2. Yes, I move hatched babies away from those that are still incubating in their eggs, just to give them more space and security. I don't know if they cannibalize or not, because I've never personally witnessed it, but because it's a possible risk, it's another good reason to move hatched eggs away from unhatched eggs.
3. Because I don't raise hatchlings with the adults, I can't really comment on how the babies and adults interact with each other. I can say that drowning is an issue though with food like tomatoes, berries, melons etc.
4. Once my hatchlings are full grown, I may only move them in with the adults if they adults themselves are born in captivity.

Once you move the eggs, do you place them on top of the soil or bury them in their new habitat?
And will the babies get lost in a big container? How big should it be? Same with the eggs, since they wouldn't have hatched yet they don't need a lot of room...
