Hi guys. So For the past 2 hours I've been searching online totally panicked because my capaea nemoralis seems like he/she is having a mantle collapse (you can see my feaking out in this thread petsnails.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=problems&action=display&thread=10061 ). I moved him/her to a smaller container and noticed there was some white poop looking things at the bottom of the container (I am not very savy on snails yet I'm learning, I thought it was poop!) Anways, now my snail is swollen and I read in some threads that that happens sometimes after they lay eggs? What can I do for the snail? Will he/she be okay? Or is it actually just clear/whiteish poop? They've been eating lettuce, sweet potato, and carrots recently. Any help is appreciated!

If it's eggs, extra calcium will be needed to replenish your snail's reserves after laying eggs. Here's the page from the main website about swollen body: www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/swollen_body.html#startIt could be swollen mantle. I've had some of my snails get that, off and on, and they all seemed to be okay, even after cases of what seemed to be excessive swelling. Perhaps it is a passing irritation of some sort. Read up on the website about swollen body and mantle collapse (which looks different): www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/mantle_collapse.html#startIf your snail is still eating normally, that's a good sign. Keep us updated!

Well the next day Fasola was still not moving or eating, and this mornig I found him dead in their cage I guess these things sometimes happen, but I still don't understand why His swelling went down and his body went back in the shell so I thought he was going to be okay, he had food and calcium but I guess he was just too weak.

I'm so sorry for your loss. All too often one of our snails will pass away in spite of all we do for it, without us knowing why. It's one of the sadder aspects of keeping snails.
Rest in peace, Fasola.
