Lol, well said I find it very interesting how these snails do seem to cooperate even though they're fulica, balteata & Tiger snail - friendship over differences! But yeah I'll be very glad if I don't have to be there making sure that the smallest ones get treated well. Taavetti still has that egg-ish thing inside him, it looks no different than it did in my photo. How mysterious.

Ahh the adult Bulldozers one laid quickly the other carried the eggs inside it for 2 1/2 weeks from when I first noticed. hence the delay in the hatching times and the problem that arose yesterday with the baby Bulldozers I wrote about in the post on them.

Oh, right. Funny though that no matter how I look, I only manage to see one egg inside Taavetti, and nobody else is carrying any (I wonder if they feel weird when I keep peeking inside them). So maybe he's practising this whole egg business once again, complete with the careful consideration of when and where to lay a test egg. Oh Taavetti.
I just saw Tauno put half of his head into his own breathing hole from the outside. That looked quite strange. Also Taavetti put one eye into Mauno's (really inside it, not just a quick look from the outside that many of my snails often seem to do to each other). That on top of me checking them, that's a lot of staring into breathing holes. Snail keeping gets pretty weird sometimes.

Lol it sure does, when i was checking out the big Bulldozers for eggs one turned around n stuck its eye stalk in its own breath hole that made me laugh then pulled it out n looked at me in a quizzical way kind like saying I saw nothing strange in there so I don't know what yr interested in lol.
Snails sure do keep life interesting I have to say.

Hahahahahaaha, good thing I wasn't drinking anything right now, I burst out laughing over Zorst's story. It's been a serious day of studying & thinking a lot of difficult things, so that laugh was very welcome. Oh my. I love snails so much.

I think Halonen is full of eggs. She may just have the remains of sperm from the other snails in her previous home tank. I haven't seen her mate here. Then again my snails are such night owls, it's be easy to miss. I'm tempted to let them hatch to see if there are mini Taavettis. I've promised some people snails anyway (such as my niece) so I won't be drowning in baby snails yet. A good thing I have some time to decide upon this.

Congrats on the sight of the eggs. Sounds like your gonna have some baby GALS. Well the big Bulldozers here have been busy again and they sure must like their new tank because this morning when i went to check on them there were x 8 eggs. Now were just waiting on the next snail to lay its eggs, but I have told the rug rats that any more eggs laid after these 2 clutches will be frozen because I don't want to be inundated with baby Bulldozers. And these have to be re homed in a few months before we hatch any more of their eggs. Still cant wait for them to hatch or the eggs from the 2nd parent of the first clutch, I also cant wait to see what colors the baby bulldozers will be. Zorst

Keep us updated on the babies Zorst! Tauno is definitely getting little bumps on his little cheek, and Taavetti has noticed. Oh boy. They just snailed across the lid so that Taavetti had a part of his foot on Tauno the whole way, and Taavetti's bump was rather large. Things are getting pretty exciting here indeed. Halonen may have laid her eggs in the hole she dug yesterday evening. She came out of it today and promptly fell asleep, so it probably wasn't a sleeping hole! She's eating now. I don't want to dig into the soil now when she's still right next to the hole.

Sounds like your having as much fun in your snail tanks as I'm having in mine lol! Well the eggs I'd put in a tub and left in with the Big Bulldozers kept getting bulldozed so its now in the tank with the young snails and Alboptica.
This tanks not huge either so this meant that the baby bulldozers got released from there nursery tub into the tank . Well they have had a great time snailing everywhere and investigating everything they find. They have taken to sitting on top of the Albopticas and the sticks. At the moment they are all asleep, I think they have worn themselves out with all the snailing and investigate.
But its been great to watch. Even the small tiger snail now named Little Seilide after his mate. I found I can't not have a Seilide in the tank. he's kinda taken to looking after one f the baby bulldozers with the gray on its face and eye stalks. They are asleep together on a piece of cuttle fish.

Ah, wonderful stories Zorst. Yes my tanks are a lot of fun, I've also now re-done my both tanks (GALS in early January, and now, the wild caught snails got new decorations put in yesterday) and the snails' reactions have been great to see. I couldn't avoid disturbing two sleeping Cepaea, so I placed them together to where I wasn't working on at the time. They woke up, looked at each other, and instantly had a super gentle snaily kissing session! Not even the usual Cepaea "loving biting" that's part of their mating dance, but soft, gentle kissing and eye stalk & feeler tentacle caressing. Like "OMG I'm waking up with YOU! Hello dear!!!!" A young Arianta poked at them with his eyes and they stopped, but snailed off together. I highly suspect that they went to look for a room so to say. Also Rudolf tried to escape while I had the tank's doors taken off, but I caught him. He's so lively these days, must be all the love he's been getting lately. Seilide is a very pretty name (does it have a meaning?), and I think I understand about needing to have a snail called that. I've been trying to figure out a way to call one of my snails Grumpy without sounding like a total fool. The original snail just kind of became Old Grumpy and I still wish he was here; one of his offspring has a darker shell than the others though so maybe he could be that. I haven't yet observed if he's, you know, in fact grumpy too. I love the mental image of a tiny little baby bulldozer and an Albopicta sleeping together. I hope to see something like that when I get my first GALS babies!

I took open the hole that Halonen dug (and which Taavetti snailed over, making it collapse) and found one egg. So she's testing too?

Great more snail eggs, are you going to see it and see if its viable? I'm going to have a dig around in the big bulldozers tank in a bit when I change over there feed n find if the other eggs have been laid yet.
I like the name Seilide and yes it does have a meaning it's Irish for Snail, but I kinda really liked the sound of it when my Irish friend first saw the tiger snail he said that's one big Seilide. If i break it down phonetically its pronounced Shell-I-DA So it became a name the Tiger snails name.
This was the same friend who didn't really like snails then he came home having hit the organic food shop for veggies to feed the original Zorst and who helped me nurse Zorst back after Gary died and he got so depressed at the loss of his friend.
He still can't get his head around the pet snails but now spends a bit of time watching them somewhat interested at their antics when he thinks me n the rug rats aren't looking lol!He also finds them Snail stuff an music on you tube which the rug rats love. And now moves snails out the way or if he accidentally treads on one at night in the dark quickly brings it back to me to try n Dr up, lol.

Yeah I am very tempted to let Halonen's eggs hatch. She needs to lay the rest of the clutch though! I'm 100% certain she had more than one egg in her, she's just still holding them in for now. I admire how much she wants to do a good job laying her eggs, doing the testing and all. My big snails are nervous! They haven't slept much today, except for Ewert who's dug a tunnel and gone to sleep there. They must sense that things are changing, with the egg business and Tauno's puberty. Also Halonen was very pissed off with me today. She tried to climb the wall but kept slipping, practically standing still even though her foot muscles were moving. I thought I'd help her and as much as touched her, and she made a very angry face and bubbled herself all wet! I think she protects the valuable eggs now that she might lay them at any moment? Love the story about your friend. I didn't know Seilide meant Snail! That's an appropriate name for a big snail then. My snail Lemon was named kind of similarly, my BF saw her and just said it. In my language you can say "looks just like lemon" and have it mean both a name, Lemon, and the fruit lemon, so that was it.

The name Zorst came about as my eldest rug rat always watched a kids program with an alien that used to do the space weather report called Zorst, it kinda looked snail like n she loved the name. That was when she was 2 n 3 yrs old but she always wanted to call a pet snail Zorst. Well the first Zorst came n went n a few others have had the name temporarily but it didn't kinda stick. So I think the next Tiger snail n new mate for Little Seilide will get the name Zorst.
I love the name Lemon n that's a very good reason for it. This one will make you laugh my youngest rug rat has a cuddly cat that she was given as a baby which she called Big Eyes yrs ago he's a firm fave so when I read about your big eyes and his offspring it always makes me smile. Its kinda a cool name n so is ole Grumpy lol.

Zorst is a great name too. Nice story behind it as well, now I want to see that kind of snail like alien. That's a fun coincidence with our Big Eyes's! I really really should get around to documenting the mentioned offspring, the first batch from June 2014 are all sexually mature and such big snailies, which is crazy because I watched them hatch. They were translucent and smaller than a match stick head on their first day! They also have such wonderful shell & foot colours now, with some it's kind of hard to see where they came from! I think a few are leucistic, actually, but I have no clue who carried that gene. But everyone has lovely huge eyeballs with an innocent look in them, lol. I just stirred the GALS tank soil and found another single egg hidden just below the surface. Lay the whole clutch already, Halonen! I'm waiting!! Taavetti is in a strange mood, excreting grey mucus. I hope he's okay. :/

Ahh hopefully some more eggs from Halonen then perhaps she'll find a spot she likes n will lay you the clutch all together. I checked out the Adult Bulldozers tank still no egg clutch yet so I'll check again later today.I sure hope that Taavetti is ok n sorts himself out. I checked the other clutch as that I'm waiting on hatching as well, 2 had got black spots that had appeared in the last few days n they actually cracked when I picked them up they were dead n full of slime no snail shell or anything so they may well have been test eggs or ones that never developed. The remaining eggs seem fine so I've put them back in there tub n will see what happens. Now its just waiting on the new clutch of baby Bulldozers. I also got some surprise eggs from some of the Limicolaria Numidica or Limicolaria Flammea, not sure which as they are sharing a tank right now. Well 2 of these eggs have hatched this morning and they are tiny babies one looks like it has a stripey shell and the other looks to be plain, we'll see how they develop. There are plenty more eggs as well so hopefully there might be a few more. These guys are all in another tub in the young snails tank so they are safe as I'd never fined em in the big tanks there so small. Seem's like everyone is crazy about laying eggs right now lol even the Immacs have got there big bumps on the sides of their necks so we may have some action there. They are in the tank with the big Margies and are all over each other. They keep themselves away from the bulldozers though lol. All fun in the snail tanks. Before I forget here is the only pic of Zorst the space barnical on the internet he's the green guy on the left of the picture and here's a link to the theme song of the series on YouTube. Zorst is in it and stuck on the bow of the outside of the ship he's the space barnical who does the space weather reports n is well known for his bad Jokes lol. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4K0rpkCMHAEnjoy Zorst

Halonen fell again (I think I posted in another thread how she last fell a couple days ago), this time I didn't see how it happened, but she was on the substrate on her side with one eye coming out from between her foot wrinkles. There's no visible damage to the shell at all, but after I finished checking her shell, she retracted 1 cm away from the edge. Since I haven't found her clutch, I suppose it's still in her and now I just hope she doesn't have broken eggs in her tracts. I really hope she's laid it, hiding it super well so that I just haven't found it, and she mostly has post egg laying exhaustion. Either way, I sat her on a plate with warm water and a little bit of spirulina, in case she's feeling weak. She came out making lots of popping sounds, and has her face in the liquid right now. I can't really tell if she's drinking, but I hope so. Once she's ready to come out fully, I'll have to check if she has wounds or something. (Ok, now she lifted up her face. Touch makes her startle and she's altogether in a weird state of mind. ) Nice pic and theme song, Zorst. Thanks for sharing! Yeah, my update this time was a little sad, but otherwisely I see we're having lots of excitement in our tanks. Hope things will go swimmingly again in no time.

All right, after her fall & sit in the spirulina, I returned Halonen to the tank and she ran around really fast, making a lot of wet slime, until she hid behind the root and Taavetti went to keep her company. I think she's okay, just shocked. Also I found a clutch of eggs!! Ah, so clever, it WAS in the original burrow that Halonen worked so hard on - she'd just left an egg further up in the soil, and when I found it, I thought it was the only one. For some reason I decided to look again today, and the clutch was against the very bottom of the tank! I put the soil and moss back on top of it for now, I must decide if I want to keep them all as it seemed to be a pretty large clutch. So, she most likely didn't have eggs in her tracts when she fell. Which is good. Also she probably has been exhausted too, which explains the falling, and her suddenly lessened ability to climb altogether that I described above. Makes sense. She didn't touch the cat food, but I'll maybe offer her egg again, as she loved that.

Ahh the rest of the eggs were well hidden then clever snail she is. It sure could explain quite a bit regarding her behavior. The cooked egg sounds like a good idea to boost her up again, I was planning in doing the same with the Big Bulldozers tomorrow becuase after all these pool parties I'm expecting to find a lot more clutches of eggs lol.

Lol. Strange little situation here - Tauno and Taavetti are at the lid inside their shells, and Halonen is sliming in circles around them, patting them with eye stalks and touching them with her foot edge, over and over again. They're not coming out, and Halonen is aroused like crazy. Taavetti's slime is still gray, but he's pooped in his sleep like he always does. I wonder what's up.

Yes, the best thing is we have no desperately lovesick Taavetti anymore, so this thread can be ended. Their facial expressions were so surprising though, it looked so uncomfortable compared to small snail mating! Oh man. It's a weird world.
