Thanks Cliath! And mangoandlemon, me too! Zorst, relaxed is right, Halonen was sleeping on her side afterwards lol (she's turned the right way up by now tho) and Taavetti is resting attached to a wall. I'm just so happy for Taavetti. <3 Hopefully Tauno gets his share of sweet snaily love soon too! The others don't seem even nearly mature yet but that's ok, less frustration in the air that way. Yes egg watch time it is, lol

YAYYYYYYY!!!!! I caught them mid act the Immac's were getting the groove on last night for about 4 hrs. Lots of snaily love and kisses going in there. They chose a warm spot on the side of the tank on the heat mat n took there own sweet time about it. This morning both of them are tucked in the flower pot beside each other sleeping it all off. They look kinda cute with all the big Bulldozers sleeping around them with them in the middle. So Now exciting times here also as I wait n then hunt out the clutches of Immac eggs. I'll see what happens with the first clutch from each of them and if we get any live offspring. If I do then I'll freeze the next clutches . I don't mind a few Immac baby's to sell on but don't want herds of them. The Baby bulldozers are growing so fast I had one slimming up the side of the tank in the early hours of the morning, it was only 2 weeks ago he was a 3rd smaller in size. There still great and keep me laughing There are currently 3 of them trying to muscle each other off the last piece of courgette lol! Zorst

Haha that's wonderful Zorst! If the snails knew we're writing about their love life here! Or maybe they do. The little Bulldozers sound healthy and happy growing that fast. I was thinking that for snails that just hatched, they were big in your photos too!

I have a thing or two to learn about big snail egg hunt. I was stirring the soil and looked yet again in the original place where I found the first clutch, as I didn't dig it up then, only located it and covered it back up. To my shock it was about 5 times bigger than I'd thought. That makes it 100-ish. I'd seen a small snail lay several dozens of eggs before (I have no idea where they keep them haha), but discovering that a big snail had done just the same in her much bigger scale was... well, quite a moment! I dug them up and placed them in a small container with soil from the tank and some moss. I'll have to put some of them in the freezer even though I do want a bigger collection and I know where to give a few snails - even if some of them are infertile eggs and some just don't survive, even 50 standard fulica is way too much at once, lol. I prepared mince meat and cooked egg for Halonen again, and she ate both with very, very good appetite. No eggs could be seen inside her shell yet but she slept against the heat mat, so she could be on her way to developing them right now. Whew. The cuttlebone rasping rate in the GALS tank is crazy as well, I'm glad I bought a big box. Suddenly snail keeping is very, very exciting. Ok it always was but this is kind of different exciting!

I was wondering if Achatina snails do the "double ways" mating that small snails do, or not? Because Taavetti and Halonen didn't do it like that. Hmm.
Neither of them is carrying eggs yet, I keep peeking into their breathing holes lol.
Halonen's earlier eggs are definitely viable, I was cleaning and re-arranging the tank today due to a horrible stink (I've been feeding them protein, and Mauno has a stomach problem that makes his poo runny, poor fellow - but the result of these two things was very yucky) and found a broken egg that I'd missed earlier. It had a deceased snail fetus inside, with a shell and all. I looked at it for a long time with a bright lamp and didn't find its heartbeat. It was both a sad and beautiful moment. Now what happens next, I'm waiting eagerly to see.
I have a new Tiger snail arriving this week, too, to keep Ewert company. Poor guy has so little in common with the others, I feel sorry for him. A third Tiger will come in May or so when it's safe to mail; this one that I'm getting in a couple days I'm picking up by car. Yay!
