How big are GALS?

I've never wanted a giant African snail because I thought it would be too big, but some of the pictures I saw of others suggest that they are only a couple inches long. Could anybody confirm that?

I'm not 100% certain about this, but all I know is that it varies greatly from species to species and that "Achatina achatina" is supposed to be the largest. Since the site is mostly European, there's tons of members here who keep them and should be able to measure them to provide interesting data if they're willing.

Depends on the species and the snail, and their age. Some species are smaller, some are larger. Some snails turn out unnaturally small, some are very large. Even the biggest GALS are small until they start growing into subadults and adults! I've kept fulica that were about 3 inches or so shell length, and I've kept enormous margies with shells bigger than my hand and feet the size of my forearm. There is no absolutes when it comes to GALS as a whole because they're a very diverse set of species, and there can be major differences in snails for various reasons like genetics, diet, whether they've captive bred or wild caught, etc.

IIRC you're in Canada where GALS are illegal to own anyway.
