Ok this may be a stupid question: Are these ones that Virginia cheeseman wild caught, or captive bred? If they are captive bred I may be interested.

We're not all brilliantly patient though None at all is better because you're not waiting for someone to have them, only to find out everyone else has got them! Sonicsnail, why would you only be interested if they're captive bred?

Have a read of the worms topic on the Pests, Illness & Disease section. Having captive bred ones will minimise this problem.

Good hygiene does that You shouldn't be touching anything after touching a snail until you've washed your hands. Not even your other snails really. We all do that though (I do anyway lol) But if you don't touch anything else until you've washed them, then you shouldn't get anything bad. How many people on here have had anything from them anyway? I've read you can still get things from captive bred snails too. The risk can't be that bad, otherwise people wouldn't be keeping and selling them!!

so, it's better than none at all I'd be worried about getting them from abroad (firstly because of the time they'd be in transit, and secondly probably cost twice as much to ship them over!). I'd much prefer to get them from someone in the UK, even better if it was someone on here

Hmm but I still worry then about getting them from someone overseas, and arriving and turning out to be fulicas or something completely different. But then again I guess folks in the UK could swizz you if they wanted to anyway *lol*
Are there really that few baby tigers in the UK? Because it seems as if people obviously have them, but they must never be available to people outside their social circle. And I've not yet seen baby tigers available online generally (ie online shop), only adults.

But then again I guess folks in the UK could swizz you if they wanted to anyway *lol* Theres always that worry, I ask for pictures, and sometimes pictures of the adult snails, if the snails are tiny, before deciding if I wanted any, whether UK or Europe...I havent received any snail from Europe which turned out being something that I wasnt expecting (yet ;D) postage is good also, I was suprised how cheap postage was for my slugs from Belgium, it worked out cheaper than UK postage. Ive never seen captive-bred tigers for sale in petshops, or online shops, they've been sold on here though, someone (Paul I think?) was selling baby tigers around the time I joined this forum

I guess the fact that I would want captive bred snails, because I am planning on one big communal tank at some point, goes against me. And considering they're supposed to be more readily available than other types of GALS (obviously other than fulica), then I've not got a hope in hell *Lisa goes to attach the fake tiger shell to her dog again*

Its true that there are not many baby tigers available, either in the UK or over here. But maybe since there have been quite a few rescued from Brixton market this will change next year...

But then again I guess folks in the UK could swizz you if they wanted to anyway *lol* So far the continentals are winning for tiger babies with Arno, Catherine and Lotta producing 300-500 combined, and Mike and Exotic pets with a grand total of about 30 for the UK lol. When I first started I bought "tigers" on 3 occasions and they turned out to be fulica. I'd prefer to buy from European seller who comes on here than a random UK seller. Are there really that few baby tigers in the UK? Because it seems as if people obviously have them, but they must never be available to people outside their social circle. And I've not yet seen baby tigers available online generally (ie online shop), only adults. They seem to be trickier to breed than other snails but like Arno said that could well be a thing of the past. We have lots more wild-caught tigers and perhaps more importantly, there are about 100+ newish babies out there that may breed more readily, seeing as they were captive from birth. And at least they hatch easily enough, unlike some Archachatina. Just a matter of time, I've noticed my tigers' sexual opening swelling a lot recently. ;D Perhaps I can give them some Avena sativa or Yohimbe to get them even more in the mood, lol

Plain old Viagra washed down with a pint of Stella should do it *lol* I'll have one (or two) one day. I'll just have to learn to be patient. To be honest, I'm quite taken with everyone's margie pics too. Like I said, though, I'd want one from a baby, and that's gonna be tricky. I've not got to the stage of painting stripes on Sam the fulica yet though, so I think I'll be ok!

Lol, are you implying that I don't take proper hygiene? I always wash my hands after feeding, cleaning out my GALS. People sell them in Brixton to eat! Not to keep as pets! I was mainly referring to Brixtons. Yes, it is right that with proper hygiene minimizes the chances of humans possible getting these worms or diseases. But, the snails will still have the worms! I would prefer snails without worms and all sorts of other things.

No I'm not. I just don't see the worry if you use proper hygiene!
Everything has something else living in it, I.E a worm, bacteria, they're just not all harmful.
It's your choice of course, I'm not saying it's wrong. I just don't see the harm in getting them if you handle them properly. Whatever they have should die out eventually, unless it's something they always have in them that isn't harmful.
My freddie is a brixton margie, and I haven't noticed anything different since I've had him (Nor did Anjie when she had him I think). So it can't really be said that they all have the "bad" worms/bugs etc. Many people will keep them in quarantine for a time just incase too.
