Whenever I try to put my snails on orange and grapes they tend to bubble up a little. Is it tooo acidy for them or is that they're picky? My snails LOVE Lollo Biondo leaves. They finish one in one night! PIGS haha Thank You.

oranges may be to acidic for them, and many snails won't eat grapes, although some will.

I agree that oranges may be too acidic. Grapes may be too sweet. I've noticed that none of my snails have liked really sweet fruit.

same, mine hate grapes, kiwi, stuff like that. Most of mine won't even touch strawberry, although I suspect that again the acidity levels are to do with this

I think it is partly that snails are picky because as some of you have said, yours wont touch strawberries and grapes or sweet fruit in general but all of my snails LOVE sweeter fruit...... strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, grapes, blackberries....... ALL THE EXPENSIVE STUFF! ha! and its their fave! (obviously cucumber comes 100% 1st though) Its strange, ive always gave mine a varried diet but they know exactly what they like and wont eat a lot of normal things like butternut squash, carrot, apple, pear! Im thinking of trying my snails on cherries next!

Does anyone else have problems with bananas? Why wouldn't some snails like them

my snails don't seem to like banana either, they just don't touch it. it's not the most practical food to give to snails sometimes as it goes mouldy so quickly, not just going brown, i mean like fluff and green stuff! wasn't there a thread here before that said something about grapes not being good for snails? mine have never touched grapes either.

Taking about oranges taste them first if they taste sweet they r ok to put in tank, but not for daily use 'cos so acid. Some times of year oranges r really so bad that humans can't even eat them. I think all the fruit should be tasted before given 'cos there is diffenrent seasons for different fruits so some fruits can be too sour to snails taste. I think snails love sweet tasting fruits most. Lemon, grapefruit and lime is too acid to give snails, so is onions & rhubarb. And avocado is dangerous to all animals and it's very fatty and cause heart attacks (for animals, humans can eat it). These 6five foods what I just said should not to be given to snails.

Too much fat isn't good for snails so I'm not giving them avocado, in our country we really make sure that everything is snail friendly that's y we banned so of foods and don't give them to snails.

The snails that eat avocado seem to be in the minority. Mine have never liked it. I don't know how unhealthy it might be for snails, but it's best not to take chances and offer it only occasionally and in small amounts.

only in slightly smaller quantities of course (unless there are more than 20, in which case they turn rabid and eat everything in sight)

Hahaha lol. when does speckled garden snail babies get their spots? Is it possible for them not to have spots? Lol i dunno I feel soooo dumb but do snails have taste buds? Or is it their sense of smelling to know if its their fave food or not.. Lol That suddenly popped into my head

well i think it very well could be possible for snails to not have any shell pattern, depending on the genetic, since there already is so many mutations like lack of eyestalk or too many eyestalks etc And im sure snails got some taste buds, since some veggies like lettuce dont really smell that much but yet it seem to be a big favorite of snails The other day mom had found some wild strawberries when she walked the dog that she brought home for my snails to try, so i fed it to them but both of my retics, as soon as their lips came in contact with the berries, did some weird face expression, it was almost as if they wrinkled their nose so i took it they didnt like those berries xD So they sure got to have some taste

Their bottom stalks and the area around their lips are LOADED with what are called chemoreceptors, which are basically a slightly modified version olfactory cells. They use them to taste things around them.
