Sometimes snails eat more on some occasions than others, they could be filling up on soil or cuttlebone. What I've noticed with my snails is that they can sometimes overindulge in food and not eat for a day or two- even when fresh food is in the tank. Snails sometimes eat soil to add healthy bacteria to their gut too

Your snailies sound lovely I'm sure you have nothing to worry about Are any of them looking old? When Pear reached 5 years, she didon't suffer with any deep retraction or anything like that but she could only manage soft foods and her shell had aged: Her shell in her prime: Her shell when she was old (a few days before she passed away):

I've read many times that normal bodied A Fulicas can live to be up to 10 years old but I've never seen or heard of any Albino Fulicas (like jades and jadatzis) living past 5 years- has anyone had an albino GAL that's lived for longer than 5 years?
I've had a few albino baby snails die off within a year from genetic problems but Pear (my albino jade) aged and died at 5 years old with no health problems - is it just all genetic luck with albinos?

Since the break is at the front of the shell where the new growth is, her shell should regrow quite quickly. As long as she has a cuttlebone in her tank she will rasp at it for calcium to repair it. In the last pic it appears that she is smoothing the edges out to promote new, smooth shell growth. By the way she's a beautiful snaily

Hi there! My Jadatzis seem to like the humidity around 60-70 percent - a spritz around the tank with a water bottle and a very shallow water bowl will help to maintain this

What a beautiful personable friend. How sad. And only five years old? They can reach ten, right? I'm unsure but I think it depends on the species and albino genes - she became an adult at 3 years and in her final year her shell looked aged- almost like tree bark. I also had to just give her soft foods too bless her she never had any major health problems but she just started to grow tired as if it was her time

Hi If you are in the UK, Pets at Home sell sterilised coco fiber bricks - I've been using them for over 6 years in my snailkeeping and haven't had any problems. As well as getting it in store, they also deliver

Just thought I'd share some pictures of the boys in their bigger tank Little Neo having a long drink The boys eating some snail mix Shamby and Pedro racing to some appple even though there were plenty of slices to go around in the tank! Grayson climbing the big rock. Grayson passed away a few weeks ago - may he rest in peace A tiny face peeping out of a comfy moss bed All boys together Shamby climbing on the plant. They all love that plant - each one has a favourite leaf that like like to sleep and poop on! and last but not least is Pedro's cheeky face covered in soil as he chews on some cuttlebone

Thanks I've noticed grape isn't on the list- I have fed snails both red and green grapes on numerous occasions throughout the years so they are fine - preferably halved and a few days old so they have sweetened

Aww, cuties! It is crazy that small snails could be soooo many years old yet they're so tiny. Everyone thinks my Ventridens Suppresus Rocky is a baby, but I found him as an adult nearly 2 years ago. I wonder what he thinks about his tankmate, a 2 2/3 month old Neohelix, outgrowing him! Wow I can't believe they can live that long and be so tiny!

Hi Shaydee, I remember when you sold me Sonny I'm so sorry to hear about Vallery - I didn't really know her personally but, from what I've seen on the forum and read, she sounds like she was such a wonderful person. I'm so sorry to hear of such a great loss Hello! I hope you're well? Just one of Sonny's parents is still alive but on his last legs (foot??), mostly sleeping now. Is Pear still going? Thank you so much for your kind words I'm great thanks! Hope you are well too- its good to hear from you again Wow can't believe one of his parents is still going! and no sadly Pear passed away due to old age - I made a post dedicated to her called ‘Goodbye Little Pear' in the memorial section on this forum. I do have 4 baby snails now though who seem to be doing well called Grayson (rodatzi), Shamby (jadatzi), Neo (albino jade) and Pedro (albino jade) (bought online- Pear never had babies)

Could be genetics yeah his growth is slow and his new shell growth doesn't even start out yellow anymore, its always chalky white but he still seems to be enjoying life

Hi again I knew that they shouldn't have orange, lemon or lime but for some reason I never thought of tomato being acidic I tend to feed them fruit maybe once a week or so but its mainly veg and snail mixes - I'll certainly cut back on the tomato!

Hi there I have 4 snails (2 albino skinned achatina fulicas, an achatina fulica rodatzi and an achatina fulica jadatzi. They are in a big tank for their size. (A ‘Petpal' style tank in the largest size) I've kept an albino fulica with a jadatzi together before with the same substrate (coir brick) and diet with no problems. Shamby is the only one who has this problem. The 2 albino jades are growing well and have no problems. He eats lots of calcium and has a varied diet and the other snails don't go near his shell- they always go to the cuttlebone. I'll try offering acidic and non acidic food at the same time and see which he chooses Thanks for the advice

Hi Flowersnail, wow only 1cm? It seems it could be a genetic issue if the snail is eating fine and is active. Maybe some snails are just meant to be tiny

Hi there, when I had problems with the uppermost layer of Pear's shell flaking and peeling, I rubbed olive oil on it every time she had a bath and her shell got better and she suffered no ill effects. I've tried it on really dry shells with poor growth but it doesn't seem to help much. I've been using organic cold pressed coconut oil (that you can get from most health stores) and that seems to help with the dryness quite a bit (and they also smell good lol) however after about 2 days you get a sticky build up on the shell from the oil that just needs lightly sweeping away with a soft toothbrush- I do this every week and its helped with the dryness. It also stopped my snaily biting big bits off his shell and he has some new growth. Hope this helps

I'm not sure, I think Grayson (my rodatzi) has stopped growing. He's never active for very long before getting tired and he doesn't eat at much as my albino jades (who eat tons! Lol). My jadatzi that I had in the past never had any problems so I'm wondering if its genetic?
