I only know that snails stay away from copper, and I've read somewhere that putting some kind of fencing made of copper round the plants you want to protect keeps snails away. I'm not sure how it works if there are too many plants to protect, though. I hope someone with better ideas leaves a comment. copperis toxic for them, it can kill them if theyl touch it and i dont know if they are smart enough to never ever touch it,so i dont want to take a risk. is it safe for them? i have no problem to find near my house but is it 100% safe?

Hi i have a snail with a bad shell barke that ive rescued 4 days ago. The weired part is that when ive found him he already had a part of new shell growth cvering the part over his heart, but now its seems that this part has became soft again. a day after ive found him he regrew another part and this part as well seemed to dissolve. He ate yesterday for the first time since i got him and he has been consumng calcium. Do you idea what is this? Can it be due to over humidity? or dirty enviroment? I have another rescued snail that the same thing happened to him, he has a mild brake near the lip of the sehll so it isnt worrying me much, and its not happening with him anymore , now he is managing to regrow the shell properly.

Its been 8 days now since i took him. He seems better he started to eat 3 days ago. he is continuing to regrow his shell.but there is something, sometimes a part that he already grew back is turning to soft tissue again {or dissolving} its happening with 2 other rescued snails i have{ though the others are in a seperate tank} do you know what is it? could it be due to over humidity? or not clean enough enviroment?

ive decided to brake the shell.. it was befor i read ur posts and i did beacause he was in alot of pain, bubbling alot.. after i did he seems better, he is no longer bubbling and the mantle in a more suitible psoition. the last 2 days he did alot of shell growing, but in a very weired shape. its like a big growth ,that covered with a thin hard white layer. he still didnt eat at all..

That's one nasty injury. As you said keeping it moist and giving it a lot of calcium is extremely important, but from my experience you shouldn't try to fix the shell yourself, I've killed many snails trying to fix their shells manually. I don't want to sound pessimistic but it's unlikely it'll survive, I've seen snails die from smaller injuries. Do you think i should brake some of the piecese? it seems to cause him alot of pain, his mantle is being squished and scratched on the shell.. he's bubbling alot.. i think that removing those pieces of shell up to where he is coming out from will save him alot of pain

Hi, ive rescued a snail with a broken shell. He had his shell broken up to his heart. the inner part was ok. He was doing good for about a week, eating and starting to regrow his shell, but today ive found him on his side ,not moving and has very slow retract reactions. his mouth seems to be "out" like he is doing a kiss face. it dosent look like gut extruction however.. Do you have any ideas what caused this ? any ideas how to help him? thank you

Hi, yesterday ive found 2 snails with shell injury and took them, they are together in a small tank with alot of leaves as temporarly substrate ,lettuce, cuttlebone, sweet pepper and apple. one of them is a young one, about half size ,and the other one is full sized. The bigger one has 2 holes in his shell, the red marked in the picture and the samller one has a large brake in the part of the shell that faces the ground normally near the opening, marked in yellow. Im a bit worried from the large one,he is very inactive.. he didnt moved since ive put him the tank, besides climbing a bit on the tank wall. theyre both show no interst in food so far but the smaller one has pooped. Any ideas? suggestion in order to treat them better? any signs that can help me diagnos wether something wrong with the bigger one?
