Hello! I am looking to purchase a land snail, really any breed, that’s relatively young. I’m in Idaho.

My achatina snail has been doing something quite silly lately. When she is sleeping (or may be just resting) she leaves her head out with only one eye sticking out. Usually she sleeps with her head inside her shell or tucked in but she started doing this recently. Does this mean anything?

Usually contagious diseases and parasites come from wild snails, so if both are captive bred it's probably safe. But the size difference is bigger than I thought, I think it's best to keep them separated. I also remember reading somewhere that if the snails look too different they won't recognize their roommate (terrariummate?) as another snail so they won't interact much, but I'm not sure about that. I see! Thank you, I will keep them in separate terrariums in that case. I'll see if they interact when I take them out on eating occasions.

Oh that's good! I wouldn't think they would have any toxic germs, as they're both captive bred but I really don't know. Though I do remember the breeder told me it would be okay to keep my helix aspersa with my achatina as long the helix was captive bred too.

Hello all , Just a bit of a random question. Would a small snail (Pleurodonte marginella) and a larger snail (achatina) be able to interact? I'm not on expert on snails or how they react to others, but I'm curious given I have a pleurodonte snail coming in the mail soon. I already have an achatina (can't remember the specific species but they are smaller than most-- a large snail but not quite as big as my entire hand.) Both snails will have their own separate terrariums of course, I'm just wondering because I like to take my snails out usually twice a week. I worry the bigger snail would crush the little snail's shell which is why I separated their terrarium first off. I'm just wondering if they will be safe to interact asides from that, like if their species have germs harmful to the other. Both of these snails were bred in captivity by a breeder and in fact come from the same breeder.

So, I was cleaning my snail Magdalene and feeding her some soaked oats today in the sink when she slipped off my arm and fell right in the sink... She seemed fine-- was a bit scared for a moment but continued slithering her way down my hand (she did stop eating the oats though which she was completely hogging just moments before) The damage didn't seem bad... All I could see that the lip/base (I think its called? Not sure what it is called for sure... But its like super delicate, more fragile and thin, like as if its a still developing part of the shell I think, right at the bottom or base of the shell.) that part cracked off (but none of the other shell) it was a very small amount but it worries me regardless. Are there any things i can do to help my snail make a safe recovery? Is she alright? I have cuttlebone for her but she doesn't really ever touch it.

I have a Helix Aspersa who unfortunately was captured from a forest instead of captive bred (bought them a while ago, didn't know about this til recently) and I have a second snail of a different breed that I forgot-- but who is captive bred. The breeder who sold me the new one said (upon my asking) if I placed the two in the same terrarium, the helix would have parasites (since wild) not accustomed to the other snail, and worst case scenario could kill it. Is this true? Is there a way to get rid of the parasites without harm? Thanks.

Hello, and good day! I purchased a new land snail recently, and its been in the mail for exactly 11 days now. Good thing is it was packed well, and the little guy (only six months old) was buried in coconut soil as most snail sellers seem to do when sending snails distances. I got an email notif this morning that it is in fact out for delivery and should be at my house soon. The problem is I'm in California currently, and I won't be back home until tomorrow (Saturday) night , very late. My family members are at my house however so they can take the package in and open it if necessary- but I really wish to open it my self and prepare him in his new home. My question is how long can land snails in general survive buried in dirt? The breeder told me it was possible it went into hibernation but it's not for sure. Can it live in there just two more days (unless I have enough energy to open it Saturday night) without food and whatsoever? Or would it be best to have a relative open it for me and prepare the snail before hand in his terrarium? I am quite anxious about this. Thanks.
