My boyfriend found shells of these snails and was wondering if I can have them if he can find live ones? They're cone shaped (about 1cm) and helix aspersa's are brown garden snails

Hello again, After almost a week of daily bathing and isolation Oreo started showing symptoms of loneliness (low eyestalks and very low activity) so I transferred him into the main tank with the other adults last Tuesday. He never lived in it before but it is the best place I have for him. I keep an eye on him now and I think he's feeling a little better but his activity level is still low. I feel guilty about his situation... I really didn't mean to do him any harm. At least the colour of his lip got darker, so I'm less worried about that even though the deformation we can see on pictures 2 and 3 is still present. I don't think it's reversible unfortunately. I am still wondering about the causes of this problem, so if anybody could give some opinions it would be very appreciated... Thank you. I have no idea, but I just want to say that you seem to be caring for him very well. And I'm sure it's not your fault, even if it's the mushroom, because many snails eat mushrooms and have no problems. Xoxo Good luck

My eggs hatched two weeks ago and I've been slowly learning. I have a thread if you want to look at it with some tips. I would just say to be careful with them and make sure you're giving them calcium and watering them!

The mesh tank lid for my 10 gallon that I've had for maybe a month has already got rust on it. I'm worried that it'll hurt my snails (they crawl on the lid) so I want to replace it with one that won't rust. What do you guys use? I have a plastic tub that's about 30 litres and I cut the entirety of the middle out and replaced it with some cheap window screen mesh and hot glued it down. You can always make a lid with some wood and mesh or even buy a plastic lid and clamp it shut

When my first batch of babies hatched, the first few times I picked them up, my fingers were shaking so so much because I was so scared I was gonna crush them. I even accidentally cracked one of their shells. But it's gone away now. I think it's nerves or maybe anxiety. Hope it all goes well for you!

Hello
I have done much research on snails, Helix Aspersa/Cornu aspersum and baby snails via the internet and this website. But I need some help on some things I couldn't find.
Thanks in Advance
1. My Helix Aspersa/Cornu Aspersum are very very very very common in my area, as in you will see one ALL THE TIME. So I am going to release the babies, but I need to know at what age is the best time?
2. I am currently using CuttlefishBone and Oyster Shells to feed them calcium (Crushed) - but I saw on a post an owner made a gorgeous paste with eggshells and Cuttlebone - Does anyone have a recipe?
3. What age do I put them with my adults? Around a month? two months?
4. I am feeding them smaller bits of vegetables I feed my snails, from the list on this forum - Is this okay? Or should I not give them domestic food, or they will not know how to hunt?
5. Release - Is a park, forest or my garden the best place to release?
6. Before Release - Before I release my babies (they would be juveniles at that point) should I stop feeding them vegetables, and begin giving them leaves and stuff from outside? So they know what to eat? And stop giving cuttlebone? I'm worried they won't know how to find food
Thank You for anyone who can respond, I really need help and I want them to be as healthy as possible and I don't want them to die of hunger in the wild.

Hello monssnails! I don't have the answers to all of your questions but I'll do my best. 1. On my opinion it looks fine, though I suggest you add a small dish in your babies' box so that the food you give them doesn't make the substrate messy. 2. I don't know... I suppose it's normal, as the duration between the laying of eggs and their hatching is probably long enough for the parents to recover (At least it was for my Cepaea nemoralis). 3. You can feed them the same as parents, just make sure their food isn't too rough for them to eat. Same for the calcium source. 4. I read in your recent posts that you live in Australia.. I live in Canada so I have no idea about the current legislation there. 5. Don't worry if they don't eat in the first few days, as they need time to harden their shell, and of course be extremely careful when you take care of them, because they are so small an accident can easily happen. That's about it, I think... Thank you so much!! 🤗🤗

Hello everyone I came home today and most of my snail eggs have hatched. I have a few things I need opinions on - 1. Is this set up okay? With the hatchlings in a separate box but still with the parents 2. Is it usually for Snails to mate again so soon, because they are (yes one of my snails decided to go upside down as I was taking the photo) 3. What do you feed baby Snails? 4. When is the best time to release them and where? 5. Other tips for caring for babies! Thanks so much!

Hi monssnails, if your identification is right: Helix asper sa (= Cornu aspersum = Cryptomphalus aspersus) is native to western and mediterranean Europe. It was introduced by trade in several countries, including Australia. So it´s not a species native to Australia. Releasing the offspring is open for discussion........ . Kind regards: wolf Hi Wolf, What do you think I should do? They are Garden Snails that I see everywhere, and they're very common. I don't know how long ago the eggs were laid, so I am unsure if they are embryo or fluid. Thanks Also the reason I wanted to release them. Was because I actually got them from my garden. So regardless of whether I captured them, they may have mated anyways.

Maybe check the soil isn't too wet, if you pick some up and squeeze it and water runs out, it's too wet, if this is the case you just need to squeeze it all out, also if summer is coming the heat will make the tank smell a bit more, just with the lack of ventilation. Hi The soil seems okay but I think it's water from staying on the pots and on the cuttlebone making it smell

Hi guys I mist my habitat daily and summer is coming so I have to keep that up. But it's beginning to smell like off water in there and I feel like the snails won't be happy about that. Also my babies are growing up and I'm beginning to have a hard time telling them apart. Any tips apart from painting shells Thanks!

Hi Snail lovers! Firstly, I'm excited to say that my Juveniles have grown into teenagers! Secondly, is 30 litres enough for 4 snails? Thirdly, I thought I lost my snail and then I found her, only her head emerging in the dirt and her entire shell was under the soil! Any reasons? The photo is her covered in dirty afterwards. -M

The transparent part at the opening? That's fresh growth. A great sign. I think your snail will be fine! Yesterday it looked like she was coming out of the shell and it was too big in her, but this morning she seems better and the shell is fitted again! Thanks so much

Hi everyone My snail Geraldette was found with a cracked shell, and yesterday it looked like it was getting way better but today it's gotten worse! The crack looks like it's breaking the shell and the bottom of the shell looks transparent. She seemed to have trouble coming out of her shell and I'm worried Please help I might isolate her and another baby since I have a full grown one that may hurt her Thanks all!

Black poo usually means she's eaten some soil. It's perfectly healthy and something that snails need to do. Sometimes snails poop on top of each other, it's not harmful at all as snails benefit from touching and eating poo. The slightly thicker mucus is common too, may be that something has irritated her but I don't see anything particularly worrying there. Thanks Etana Would you reckon that she's unhappy in captivity because when I replace food and clean the habitat she's always trying to escape and always seems to be collecting soils and getting herself much dirtier than the rest of them Dad believes since she's so big, she must be old and unhappy to be in captivity What do you think? Thanks

Um, where was the liquid coming from? And have you fed her anything yellow? Snails do get diarrhoea type stomach upsets, but I've never seen evidence of it being contagious. Another story is if it's not coming out with the poop but from a wound or something. A pic would be helpful too. Also, some snails also are able to make themselves very wet and slippery when they're surprised. That's normal. Hi Today she didn't have any yellow fluid but she had HEAPS of dried black poo and white stuff attacked to her Parents said I should let her go back into the Wild, but I don't know if I should Please help
