My aspersas have been mating a lot but so far no eggs! My other UK snails have been mating and laying constantly for about a month now, so you'll probably see eggs soon, make sure you have the substrate really deep as aspersas seem to prefer it deeper than all my other snails. Good luck!

I really wish my camera hadn't broken just as this thread was started Such lovely snails! I have over 100 baby Cepaea nemoralis and about 4 more batches of eggs waiting to hatch!

I often see them high up in trees when I walk around a field and woodland near here, but in my other snail hunting place I find them all hidden in rock walls. So I think you'll find them just about anywhere after rain, just remember to look in all sorts of places!

My two baby fulicas came in the same state, the condition seems to be getting better as they grow, but only very slowly. Maybe the previous owner didn't provide them with a good source of calcium. I hope yours get better!

What a beautiful picture! Roxy would be flattered. I don't think she'd mind you keeping her shell, I plan to keep my snails' shells too when the time comes x

Gorgeous snails 2 of my fulica have big heads like that, and 3 of them just have normal heads. I'm not sure what it is, but they seem to be otherwise healthy so I wouldn't worry

I had a few of these, the eggs were surprisingly big for their size! But they were still tiny, I would find single eggs dotted around on top of the soil. They never hatched unfortunately, but I imagine they'd be a similar size to Lauria cylindracea, that look like tiny little grains of sand gathered on the cucumber. I keep all my tiny snails in a Ferrero Rocher box, there are no holes in it but I kept live plants in there and made sure to open it as often as I can, for a while a few times a day, they seem to do fine and I haven't had any suffocate

On the street that I live on there are hardly any snails, just the odd Helix aspersa and once I found a couple of tiny Cochlicopa lubrica and Discus rotundatus. Less than 5 minutes from my house there is a field with some woods behind it, there are very few snails in the field and I presume this is because the river flowing through it floods a few times every year. However in the woods and high up in some of the trees in the field I have found LOTS of Cepaea hortensis and nemoralis, there is also Helix aspersa, Oxychilus, Copse snails and Kentish snails, I think I may have seen some Trochulus Striolata. About 5 miles away where my grandma lives there are hundreds of snails in her garden! A complete contrast to mine. I have seen Helix aspersa, Cepaea nemoralis, Lauria cylindracea, Oxychilus, and Discus rotundatus. I live in the midlands in England.

Thanks for letting me know about your thread Vallery I'm going to get some new pictures soon! Just picked up some new Cepaea today. It does look a bit like other snails have been rasping at the snail's shell! I hope it gets better! If not it may be a genetic problem causing poor calcium absorption or something! I've seen this in a quite a few older snails found in the wild.

I heard somewhere that bottled water is just tap water in a bottle? I'm not sure though! I have a water butt in the garden so I use the rainwater out of that. I have used tap water before and it didn't seem to hurt them at all, I just make sure I don't use it too often because I don't want them to be all chemically! Maybe invest in a water filter, for yourself and your snails

The website is shlimyshells.webs.com, but it is not yet published so there is nothing there just yet Thank you Ilovegals, I can't believe that one didn't occur to me! Ahh yes copper tape! I'd never have thought of the fake owl but I'll definitely put that in there I did mean the British meaning of garden, but an American type snail garden would be a good idea to put in it! Thank you guys

I am currently making a snail based website. It will include basic information about snails, information on keeping snails as pets as well as information on snails in the wild. There will be a section on making gardens more snail friendly and I would really appreciate some ideas for this! If anybody has any ideas please post them here, it might also be useful to other people on this forum too Also there will be an image gallery, with an album for snails in the wild, pet snails and for good tank setups! I would really love it if any of you could send me some pictures to get it all started off, as long as the pictures are clear! You can either post a link to any photos you'd like me to use or send them to me in an email. (pm me for email adress.) The site will mainly provide information on GALS and British snails. I will be very thankful for any contributions! xx

Hmm maybe they needed a boost! My snails all go mad for fish food, and seem to have a lot of energy after eating it. Are they both related? Could be something in their genes causing them to feel a little ..sluggish >.< My albinos are more active than my normal snails, but I can't think of a reason why they would be different in any way other than something involving the previous owners and genes.
