Oooh looks like you will be expecting baby snailies soon then! I think the other picture uploading site that people use is usually photobucket, I used imageshack when I first started on the forum because I remembered that I already had an account with then from years ago but I have no idea which is better. There are probably quite a few other photo hosting sites out there too

Here is a picture of my pregant snail, so you can compare: The eggs weren't actually that clear to the naked eye, the flash on the camera lit them up. But if this is similar to what you see, then your snail is probably ready to lay soon!

I found these guys whilst working in the kennels last weekend, I nearly stepped on poor Felix whilst scrubbing down a kennel with bleach and multi purpose cleaner!! Luckily the detergent got rinsed off in time so he wasn't too badly hurt As far as I'm concerned, I have 4 cepaea nemoralsis and I think Felix is a marble snail? Hey Shortie not sure what species a marble snail is, but could Felix be an Arianta arbustorum?

I decided to bring some Succinea putris home today, and I've made them a tank that mimics the marshy riverside that they came from. All I need now is to plant some grass seed so that they have grass to climb on. Just wondering if anyone has any general tips for their care? I have 5 adults, 2 juveniles and one baby! They are really cute, just settling in now.

His parents do that quite a bit, I don't think he'll dry out as long as the tank is humid enough, I've seen people suggest that some snails do this when they are too warm, but I doubt that is the case at room temperature in Britain!

I've had a quick check of his siblings and can't see any on them, thought I would check because some conditions seem to occur in most of certain batches. I've seen a few posts about "bubbles" forming under layers of shell. From what I've read, they seem to be harmless but no one knows how to get rid of them/prevent them from forming or why they appear in the first place! Does the little guy seem alright in his temperament?

Oh he really is lovely! You're doing well to keep him going, I've never been able to keep my snails alive for more than a few days in that state, they either seem to regain weight very quickly and come back to full health or they die if I can't get them to eat. I make a mixture of spirulina, ground oats and hempseed, as well as some calcium carbonate. I really hope he makes it! It's possible that the carbohydrate in the mix he is being fed is sustaining him but he needs more nutrition in order to put weight back on?
It's sad to read another post about snails being left with family only to die. I think I'm going to set up like a holiday service for people if they would like someone a little more experienced to look after their snails, at least that would be somewhat helpful for those in the UK anyway! I just worry about problems in with the post, though! I really hope your little buddy gets better!

I beleive that snails who are very underweight sometimes do twist in their shells, all you can really do is try and get him to eat. How is he now?

My snails do this exact thing when the tank dries out a little, try seeing if adding a bit more humidity helps

How trustworthy is the foster carer regarding snails? My mum would always prod my snails in the eyes when I wasn't there (I didn't know at the time of course!) It doesn't seem like person looking after the snail during the move really knew much about snails or their care. On the plus side, snails can grow back damaged eyestalks, so hopefully it should heal in time whatever the cause. I would give the snail a warm shower, then if anything hard to see is covering the eyestalk, it should be washed off, and the snail should at least enjoy itself!

A batch of eggs (albopicta or fulica) have developed red patches. I opened one up and there is a mostly developed snail in there, however the fluid has turned bright red. I presume that they aren't going to hatch now but does anyone know why this is? I've attached a picture.

I really wanted to add subspecies as well, especially for the Arch. marginata! I was limited to 35 choices though It might be worth someone that knows more about margies and their subspecies making a similar thread. It might be helpful for people to see these results if they are wanting to know the availability of a species, but what Id really love to do is come back a long time from now and do another, to see if the results have changed dramatically or not. I hope more people join in

Hey there, I'm really curious to see which species are more commonly kept as pets, I was looking through some of the older threads and it seems that back in 2006 certain snails were more available while others that are more available now, weren't so much. I know a little poll isn't going to be particularly accurate but the results could be interesting. I'm bound to have missed out certain species too, but hopefully not too many! I'm going to do a separate thread for non-Achatinidae snails. Thanks -Feel free to tick the boxes of snails you've owned recently (within the past few months) if you like, but if you owned a species 6 years ago that you haven't had since, it's best that you don't tick the box.

Congrats! I absolutely love my silver bodied margies that I got in October, my first time with margies and they are lovely! they seem to be slow growers though. The "leucistic" (not sure if thats the accurate term but it seems to be the most widely used) margies are so gorgeous. I hope to have some of my own one day, where are you getting yours from? Also, does anyone know why we don't see silver bodied and dark eyestalks/light bodied versions of other snail species?

It looks as though his mantle is swollen, if he has recently mated, then this is normal. If not, he could have injured himself from falling, being pulled from the side of the tank, or his skin is irritated from something (hand cream, things being sprayed around the room?) Has he eaten anything starchy lately? That can sometimes cause swelling, and providing the food doesn't cause a blockage, it should pass.

I don't think there is any chance of your pets being infected. From what I can gather, the wild snails only get infected when they come across and eat and infected rat's poop. Then, you'd probably only get infected if you ate the snail raw or undercooked, something I hope you won't be doing
